Lenci Dolls are beautiful dolls made of felt with colorful outfits of felt and organdy. The Lenci Doll Company was founded in 1919 in Turin,Italy by Enrico and Elana Scavini. The dolls made by Lenci during the 1920's and 1930's are are highly desired by collectors because of their superb craftsmanship and beauty.
A new generation took over production of the Lenci dolls in 1939 by the Garella family. During this time not many dolls were produced but mainly ceramics, etc. It wasn't until around 1978 that the Lenci company, under Beppe Garella started producing dolls again. Most of the dolls produced at this time were actually reproductions of the orginal Lenci dolls produced in the 1920's by the Scavini's. Sadly, in the mid-'90's, the Lenci doll factory came to an end and they are no longer producing dolls. I truthfully don't think any doll company producing felt dolls can compare to Lenci dolls and they will always be true collectibles. My first doll was a Lenci, which I still have, and will always treasure the few remaining dolls I have.
All of the Lenci dolls in my collection were produced after 1978. All dolls are produced in editions of 999.
